From Life Extentions: “Back in 2003, longevity scientists
became excited when the natural, plant-derived compound resveratrol
was found to extend the life span of yeast cells by as much as 70%.
What got scientists so interested was that the gene expression
changes induced by resveratrol in yeast cells were similar to those
thought to confer longer life in human beings.”

“Drug development companies are actively seeking to patent resveratrol-like
molecules to create pharmaceuticals that would prevent and treat a wide
range of age-related diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, cancer,
and even Alzheimer’s. The good news for consumers is that they can obtain
resveratrol compounds in low-cost dietary supplements today.”

Scientists believe that high red wine consumption in France may be the primary reason for their longevity. Resveratrol, a compound found in the skins of grapes is the ingredient in red wine that has been linked with multiple health benefits to provide support for a healthy cardiovascular system, help maintain the normal function of the brain and promote overall good health and wellness. One serving is equal to 70 glasses of red wine.

Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant that is produced by some plants to protect against environmental stresses. Perhaps the most notable producer of resveratrol is the grapevine, which produces large amounts of resveratrol in the skins of grapes to protect against fungal diseases and sun damage. It is therefore no suprise that wine (in particular red wine - which is fermented with grape skins) has some of the highest levels of resveratrol out of any natural food.

While it has been know for thousands of years that wine is a healthful drink (thus the old Roman saying In Vino Sanitas‘- In wine there is health), the scientific community started taking wine’s health benefits seriously after 60 Minutes reported the famous ‘French Parodox’ study in which people in France were less likely to die of heart attacks than Americans despite similar high fat diets. The study concluded that the relatively large amounts of red wine consumed by the French protected their hearts.

From the French Paradox study numerous other studies were launched to attempt to identify compounds responsible for red wine’s apparent health benefits. From these studies the compound that gained by far the largest amount of interest was Resveratrol – AND RIGHTLY SO! Recent studies have concluded that:

  • Adding resveratrol to the diet of yeast, fruit flies, worms, and a species of fish increased their life spans up to 70%, 29%, 24%, & 50% respectively.
  • Resveratrol made fat related deaths drop 31% in obese mice. The resveratrol fed obese mice also performed much better in movement and agility tests than obese mice not fed resveratrol.
  • Mice fed resveratrol had 100% more endurance than mice not fed resveratrol (i.e. they were able to run twice as far on a treadmill).
  • Resveratrol inhibits blood platelet aggregation that can lead to dangerous clots that can cause heart attacks and strokes.
  • Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant that can help prevent cell damage caused by free radicals (free radicals are unstable atoms caused in part by pollution, sunlight, and our bodies natural burning of fat that can lead to cancer, aging, and brain degeneration)
  • Resveratrol has been proven to fight cancer in vitro at all three stages; (1) initiation, (2) promotion, (&) progression.

Super Bowl Causes Heart Attacks?!

News reports flooding the media today are warning of a spike in cardiac arrests on Super Bowl Sunday based on a study done in Germany. Here is the English version of the article on Der Spiegel website: http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,532397,00.html
I watched a lot of soccer during my time overseas. Sure it can be exciting but how many games end in Zero - Zero after hours of play?

From the Associate Press: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hi1ILD8350dVSzepnoFAffrVuRKQD8UGFG100
In case you don’t know it, Dr. Lori Mosca, director of preventive cardiology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital says:

_ Take medications as prescribed.

_ Avoid tobacco smoke and fatty meals.

_ Get plenty of sleep the night before.

_ Don’t over-exert yourself physically.

_ If you drink alcohol, limit yourself to one drink for a woman and two for a man.

_ Try “not to get too angry with the refs.”

Another report offers that men may beat their wives if their team loses. So watch out for that.

If it’s anything like the last game of the season played between these two teams, it should be a great game. My instinct tells me that one team will win and one team will lose. How dull it would be if it ended 0 - 0.

Since I was a Paramus NJ resident for a few years, I will root for the Giants. I think Eli has had a tough time this season and he has fought back and overcome a lot to be in the Super Bowl at all. The easy money says Brady, but that’s the cool thing, we just have to wait and see how it plays out, refs willing.

My real desire is that it stays close until the last few seconds. Then we can say, what a great game. And that’s really what’s important: having an enjoyable time with friends and family.

Don’t forget Randy and Paula have a new song to sing after 13 years. If you don’t care about football maybe that will do it for you.

Most of you reading this I believe take Res-Q 1250 daily and that is your best course of prevention from heart attack.

Oh, here is my Super Bowl Special. 3 bottles of Res-Q 1250 along with 1 bottle of Res-Q Mg (Magnesium) for only $97.00, a savings off of retail of $79.95.

Magnesium is often overlooked, doesn’t get any good press, yet is vital for optimal heart health. We’re happy to include that in the package.
